Executive Director: Timothy MtamboTimothy Mtambo is a passionate Governance and Human Rights Practitioner and Activist. He has over 7 years of experience in programming and managing Development, Human Rights and Governance Programmes. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from the University of Malawi. He has also just finished studying for an advanced Master’s degree in International Cooperation and Development with the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Pavia in Italy.
He is the Executive Director of CHRR, a Malawi’s pioneer Human Rights and Governance institution founded in 1995 whose mission is to protect and promote the culture of Human Rights and good Governance for Human Development.
Before joining CHRR, he worked with government and the private sector as Court based Social Worker (Probation Officer) and Marketing and Sales Manager respectively.
Currently, he is the Chairperson for the Malawi Sexual and Reproductive Rights Alliance; Chairperson for Civil Society Network on Transparency and Accountability in Malawi; Co-Chairperson for the National Technical Working Group on LGBTI Rights; Spokesperson of Citizens Forum for the Defense of Good Governance in Malawi; and he is serving in various boards and committees such as the board of Malawi Electoral Support Network, the board of the Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Network, Steering Committee of the Malawi Open Governance Partnership and Steering Committee for Malawi Alliance against Child Marriages.
Timothy also serves as country focal point for the global Civil Society Coalition for International Criminal Justice and the Civil Society Coalition for Effective African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. He has massive experience in Human Rights advocacy at Community level, National level and International level such as the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the UN Human Rights Council and Committee.
