In this digital world HRDs, journalists and activists face numerous threats in their efforts to uphold justice, disseminate information and advocate for social justice and change. The need for robust digital safety and security practices is therefore key. Some of the key digital threats that affect these groups as shared by digital experts include; cyberbullying, surveillance, hacking attempts, physical threats and theft of gadgets.
Media and Communications expert from University of Malawi Jimmy Kainja defined digital security as protection of digital data, systems and networks from unauthorized access, theft, alteration or destruction. While Cyber security is that which protects the entire network.
It was also shared during the interaction that without digital security, digital rights are compromised, therefore effective protection of digital rights depends on robust digital security measures.
