The National Coordinator for Power to Youth Malawi project, Thandizo Mphwiyo welcomed all attendees and introduced Power to Youth project to the community. The projects main thematic areas are:

  • To end Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) on young girls
  • End unintended pregnancies
  • End Child marriage and Harmful practices,

This project will be implemented by a consortium of six partners namely CHRR, Youthwave, MHRRC, AMREF Health, CYECE and Malawi SRHR Alliance over a five year period in Machinga and Dedza districts. Currently the Power to Youth project is being implemented in 7 countries which are Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, Ethiopia and Malawi.

For the project to be a success our project team will work closely with various stakeholders from traditional authorities, parents, village heads, teachers, the community and key government officials. More focus will be on the girl child as she is usually the less privileged within the community. All children should be given an equal chance at education especially girls as an educated person is capable of progressing to the next level and also ensure that her children are also educated as an educated nation progresses positively. The project will be exhaustive and will aim to cover all marginalized communities in Machinga and Dedza who have had less exposure on the thematic areas of the project.
